Mark 9:2-10
Gospel
Mk 9:2-10
Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them. Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were conversing with Jesus. Then Peter
said to Jesus in reply, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here! Let us make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified. Then a
cloud came, casting a shadow over them; from the cloud came a voice, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone but Jesus alone with them.
As they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone, except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead. So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.
Sermon
My brothers and sisters in Christ, today’s Gospel reading presents us with a powerful and mysterious event: the Transfiguration of Jesus. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a high mountain,
where he is transfigured before them, revealing his divine glory. Moses and Elijah appear, representing the Law and the Prophets, and Jesus is affirmed by a voice from the cloud as God's beloved
Son.
This passage teaches us:
1. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.
2. Jesus' glory is beyond human comprehension.
3. We are called to listen to Jesus and follow him.
May we, like Peter, James, and John, be awestruck by Jesus' glory and humbled by his presence. May we listen to him and follow him, even when we don't fully understand.
Prayer
Let us pray: + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Almighty, merciful and loving God,
We thank you for the glimpse of Jesus' glory in today's Gospel reading. May we be awestruck by his divine presence and humbled by his power.
Help us to understand that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets, and that his glory is beyond human comprehension.
May we listen to Jesus and follow him, even when we don't fully understand. May we obey his commands and trust in his guidance.
May we be inspired by the vision of Jesus' glory and reminded of our call to follow him. May we journey with him, even when the path ahead is uncertain.
In Jesus' most holy name we pray, Amen.
+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you,
