Todays Gospel, Sermon and Prayer

Matthew 15:21-28

Gospel

MT 15:21-28

At that time Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and asked him “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.” He said in reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But the woman came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me. He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” She said “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.” Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Sermon

My brothers and sisters in Christ, today’s Gospel reading presents us with a remarkable encounter between Jesus and a Canaanite woman. Despite initial rejection and seeming dismissal, the woman's persistent faith and humility ultimately lead to the healing of her daughter.

This passage teaches us:

1. The importance of perseverance in prayer and faith.
2. The value of humility and recognition of our place before God.
3. The boundless mercy and compassion of Jesus, who responds to genuine faith.

May we, like the Canaanite woman, approach Jesus with boldness and humility, trusting in his goodness and power. May our faith be strengthened by her example, and may we too experience the healing touch of Jesus.

Prayer

Let us pray: + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Almighty, merciful and loving God,

We thank you for the example of the Canaanite woman, who showed us the power of persistent faith and humility. May we, like her, approach you with boldness and reverence, trusting in your goodness and power.

Help us to persevere in prayer and faith, even when faced with rejection or uncertainty. May our faith be strengthened by the knowledge of your boundless mercy and compassion.

May we recognize our place before you, humbling ourselves and trusting in your wisdom and guidance.

We ask this in Jesus' most holy name, Amen.

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you,
Rev. Fr. Jhimerson Maneclang,SCJ
