JOHN 12:24-26
Gospel
JN 12:24-26
Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.Whoever
loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father
will honor whoever serves me.”
Sermon
My brothers and sisters in Christ, today’s Gospel reading presents us with a profound paradox. Jesus tells us that unless we die to ourselves, we cannot truly live. This is the mystery of
sacrificial love.
This passage teaches us:
1. The necessity of self-denial and sacrifice in following Jesus.
2. The promise of fruitfulness and multiplication through surrender to God's will.
3. The call to servanthood and discipleship, following Jesus wherever he leads.
4. The assurance of honor and recognition from the Father for those who serve Jesus.
May we, like the grain of wheat, be willing to fall to the ground and die to ourselves, that we may produce much fruit for the kingdom of God. May we hate our lives in this world, that we may
preserve them for eternal life.
Prayer
Let us pray: + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Almighty, merciful and loving God,
Help us to understand the paradox of sacrificial love, that we must die to ourselves to truly live. May we be willing to surrender our lives, like the grain of wheat, that we may produce much
fruit for your kingdom.
May we hate our lives in this world, that we may preserve them for eternal life. May we trust in the promise of fruitfulness and multiplication through surrender to your will.
May we follow Jesus, wherever he leads, and may we be honored by you for our service. May we embrace the call to servanthood and discipleship, and may we find true life in death to ourselves.
In Jesus' most holy name we pray, Amen.
+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you,
